Stretching along the eastern side of Galway City overlooking inner Galway Bay and Lough Atalia, Renmore is one of Galway’s most established residential communities. Featuring mature family homes in estates like Renmore Park, Lurgan Park, Woodlands, Ballyloughane, and Kingstown, many properties here were constructed between the 1960s and 1980s. With roofs now entering their 40th to 60th years of exposure to Atlantic winds and coastal rain, age-related roof wear is a common concern.
At Shamrock Roofing & Guttering, Desmond Sweeney and his team provide comprehensive roof repair, restoration, and emergency services across Renmore. From securing loose ridge caps and rebuilding eroded chimney stacks to replacing rotted timber fascia boards and stopping emergency leaks, we deliver fast, reliable, and fully guaranteed local service.

Because of the age and construction style of 1960s–1980s homes in Renmore, local properties face distinct maintenance needs:
1. Crumbling Ridge Mortar & Loose Ridge Caps
Decades of gale-force winds and frost cycles cause the original sand-and-cement mortar holding ridge and hip tiles together to break down. Loose ridge caps can easily blow off during storms or allow water to trickle directly down into attic spaces. We re-bed ridge tiles using polymer-modified mortar or upgrade roofs to modern, maintenance-free dry ridge systems.
2. Chimney Stack Erosion & Lead Flashing Failure
Renmore homes feature substantial brick and block chimney stacks. Over 40+ years, weather exposure erodes mortar joints and deteriorates original lead aprons, allowing rainwater to soak into chimney breasts and stain bedroom ceilings. We specialize in full chimney repointing, stack sealing, custom lead apron fabrication, and chimney cap fitting.
3. Rotted Wooden Fascias & Overflowing Gutters
Many older Renmore properties still have original timber fascia and soffit boards hidden behind cast iron or thin plastic gutters. Leaking gutter joints allow water to seep backward, rotting the timber rafter ends. We replace decayed wood with low-maintenance, ventilated uPVC fascia and soffit systems combined with high-capacity uPVC gutters.
4. Tile Porosity & Heavy Moss Accumulation
Shaded by mature trees and exposed to Galway Bay dampness, concrete tiles on older Renmore roofs accumulate thick moss. As tiles age, they become porous, holding water during heavy downpours and expanding during winter freezes. We perform low-pressure biocide soft washing to kill moss spores down to the root without damaging tile surfaces.
